Fashion & Travel Insiders – Alex Stedman

I was so excited when Alex Stedman from The Frugality agreed to be my next FC Insider. I’ve loved Alex’s blog forever and her style is perfect, yet so achievable with her tips and hints. Alex also has your next trip away sorted with her own ‘Frugal City Guides‘ for travel inspiration that won’t break the bank. Here is her FC Insider interview…

What’s your favourite holiday climate?

I like to be warm, I’m a real summer girl at heart – so mid to late 20s is ideal for me.

What’s your favourite destination to date?

Too many! I love Corsica, the beautiful clear water of Croatia…but Japan is probably my favourite place in the world – it has everything: tropical islands, bustling cities, history and culture, and great food.

Do you have any FC insider tips/recommendations? What to wear?

For a city break, I always pack a monochrome palette, mixing in a bit of denim and leopard print – that way, everything matches. And I usually always wear flats – it’s just easier for sightseeing.

What are your ultimate Travel Companions?

I love Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir, Frends headphones for the plane (which I picked up for £50 in TK Maxx!), Adidas Stan Smith trainers and a Catarzi hat at Asos.

How important is traveling to you?

I met some of my best friends whilst travelling 10 years ago – she lives in San Diego and we see each other every year (and were each others’ bridesmaids). We have a special bond that will never leave us.

What would be the perfect holiday?

I love a mix of city and unwinding, as I love to rest but also get bored easily…so somewhere like Barcelona is perfect for me as you can do sights in the morning before it gets too hot, then flop on the beach for the rest of the day. Plus, it has excellent, affordable restaurants.

Delage – Summer Sale

I was commissioned by Delage to create their Sale signage for their Summer Sale. This included creating a little map so customers could find the Delage London Boutique and a bit of brush lettering!

The signage was also used in neighbouring businesses that Delage collaborates with.

Dinny Hall

I was commissioned by Dinny Hall to illustrate her new store on the King’s Road. The illustration was used for promotional material, the opening night invite and hangs proudly in the the boutique.

Wear and Where?

If you’re someone who always likes to dress to impress, whether doing a spot of shopping, heading out for a bite to eat or soaking up some culture at a gallery, then it can sometimes be a little tricky to gauge what the dress code should be. But help is at hand…We’ve spent some time deciding what our perfect outfit for every occasion and first up is the art gallery, where you want to play it smart but comfy.

There’s nothing worse than getting too warm when stomping around the city’s best galleries, so layering is a must. We love this comfy APC Denim shirt, perfect to throw on with a pair of jeans and a jumper.

A cross-body bag that only has room for our essentials is a no-brainer, as you don’t want to be weighed down all day. This quirky MuaMua number is our go-to, and is totally Instagram-worthy!

And most importantly, no feet would be complete without a pair of comfy trainers. Make sure every step is taken in comfort and in style by wearing your trusty Converse.

The Essentials – Hesper Fox’s Kitsune Sleep Mask

Eye Mask – Hesper Fox

So for those who have just started to read my blog I don’t know how all of you are finding me but hello and welcome! Please know that ‘The Essentials’ doesn’t run in order of importance but it runs in order of, as and when I discover things I can never travel without…

Eye masks however are incredibly important when travelling long haul. This is especially true when a fellow passenger decides to stay up to watch movies for the entire flight, or like me you can’t sleep one bit when there is the odd flight attendant walking past. As to the British Airways Business Class mask, that can be alright… The First Class option even has little cushion-type things that sit under the eyes which block out all light. Yet I was in the market for a far more luxurious mask to wear inflight, and that’s when I found Hesper Fox. How cute too?

The Hesper Fox collection even includes luxury loungewear that is perfect for your entire airplane wardrobe. It can also double as your working from home get-up, if like me comfort isn’t the only thing you look for in your at-home-only apparel.
